Good idea. What about using photo-shop to create different weather conditions? That would emphasis that it’s neither the instrument or the setting.

Great idea- pretty much anything that gives out sound, a beat can be kept on it. Love the progression from drumset, to a drumset-similar layout with no actual kit pieces and then to something completely random. My only fault is that the pictures are kind of static for an action as active as drumming- some motion blurs or even an audience and stage lights would really bring your project to life.

Your lucky drummers and guitarists have it easy, you look cool doing whatever you want to. I play piano and its not nearly as cool. You could add lots of color and psychodelic effects to emphasize the color being used as sould from a great drummer.

That will be something to work with. Many times players are thought of under the instrument they play rather than their playing skills only. It will document the player over the instrument.

This is a great idea, I really like the last picture. My thought might be to Photoshop you on a stage or something with the random equipment to make it look like you are a popular musician even with out a true drum set.

I really like the essence that is captured by the pictures. I think your idea is very valid and would make for a great argument, but I think you could get a lot more creative and have fun with it and really make the pictures stand out.

I like your argument and these are good pictures to work with. When you get to the editing stage you could definitely put some interesting effects in.

This is very interesting idea showing how the instrument can suck a lot of the glory away from the player because it is the object actually producing the sound, but this visual argument takes the focus back away from the instrument and on the player and their individual skills

So it’s the player that counts… you are clever to change the background in addition to the drums. I would encourage you to keep ONLY the model as the constant element in the photographs as a way to express the idea of a “controlled” experiment. Perhaps use something other than drumsticks – you may even want to change outfits? I understand that these are raw images and that you’ve not had a chance to adjust them, but the last image does not seem to fit due to lighting. The other two are set indoors, maybe the last should too? Best of luck – certainly a good argument!

Interesting idea. The boxes taking place of the drums in the second picture was a nice touch to connect the three pictures. You can definitely have fun in Photoshop adding effects. I do like the idea of weather effects.

Personally, I love the idea – its not the tool, but the person using the tool.

Very compelling idea and interesting visually. I also like how you are trying to make an argument about musical talent through visuals. You already have a nice unified sequence. I can imaging how you might cut out the background and photoshop in some image of grand arena or ecstatic fans. My question is this–what is the punchline? The clincher to your argument? What is your audience supposed to do after they receive this information? Talent is in the musician, not the instruments. Now what? Stop funding for music programs in elementary school? I know you’re not suggesting it, but you see how your argument opens up a field of possibilities. You have to narrow it down a bit to establish significance. This is something that you may supply in the textual component.

I really like the idea for this project- you can really grab peoples attention with your visuals. You can really use photoshop to add interesting visual effects. Nice job.
